This song is dedicated to all of us finding and connecting to our indigenous roots, and to the life-giving waters of this beautiful, blue world.
*Taki Tak means God in the Water in the Esselen language. The Esselen People traveled in tribelets around what is now called Big Sur, on California's Central Coast. They came to the land where Esalen Institute is now located to make ceremony, heal in the hot spring water, and bury their dead.
lyrics
Spirits to sea, hands to the rocks, ocean cave, cypress tree
Living on a cliff on the edge of the world, otters in the mist, I’ve heard
And they were soaking up the holy, healing waters
They called it Taki Tak*
Esselen People
Working on the land, feet on the ground, healing with heart, healing with sound
Science of the soul, opening our minds, stretching out our bones,
A place to call home
And now we’re soaking up the holy, healing water
Esalen people
Dancing with the wind, journeying shaman,
People of the earth, celebrate the season
Looking deep inside, asking all the questions
Listen to the elders, listen to the youth!
Showing up for process, speaking our truth
Soaking up the holy, healing water!
Forever Esselen People
Healing with the land, re-indigenize the people!
Honoring the Chumash, Dine, Lakota
Aboriginal wisdom, Pomo, Cherokee, Sami
Tibetan, Miwok
Aligning with the Haida, Ohlone, Salish,
Inuit, Oneida, Huichol
Solidarity with Mayan, Yaki, Africa, Fulani,
Hopi, Shipibo, Druid, Takelma, Masai people!
We are all of the holy, healing water
Esselen People
